A glove-based gesture interface for wearable computing applications

چکیده
This paper describes applications of a gesture-based user interface device and its integration into application software. It describes the glove input device used, the gesture recognition software and the integration of the device into application software with the help of a context framework. The system has been used in a number of demonstration applications ranging from desktop applications to the control of a mobile robot. We present preliminary results from user feedback given at a public demonstration of the system.

Design of a Wearable Two-Dimensional Joystick as a Muscle-Machine Interface Using Mechanomyographic Signals
Finger gesture recognition using glove-like interfaces are very accurate for sensing individual finger positions by employing a gamut of sensors. However, for the same reason, they are also very costly, cumbersome and unaesthetic for use in artistic scenarios such as gesture based music composition platforms like Virginia Tech’s Linux Laptop Orchestra. Wearable computing has shown promising res...
متن کاملComputer Vision-based Gesture Recognition for an Augmented Reality Interface
Wearable computing and Augmented Reality applications call for less obtrusive and more intuitive human computer interfaces than keyboards and mice. One way to realise such interfaces is using gestures, e.g., for pointing in order to replace the mouse. The less obtrusive way of gesture recognition is to use computer vision based methods. This paper presents a computer vision-based gesture interf...

This paper describes a work related to the design and implementation of a communication tool for persons with speech and hearing disabilities. This tool provides to the user a Human-Computer interface capable of the capture and recognition of gestures belonging to the Mexican Spanish Sign Alphabet. To capture the manual expressions, a data-glove constructed to sense the position of fifteen arti...

One challenge of wearable computing is the design and use of interaction devices for wearable applications that are accepted by users. In our previous work, the Winspect [1] project, a wearable system for crane maintenance was constructed that used a multitude of cable connections to attach a data glove interaction device, an external battery pack, ultrasound emitters and receivers, a RFID scan...
